| Does anyone have thoughts on BGA rework. We now use the OK BGA 3000 and now am considering an Infrared machine. Any thoughts? | I've used Pace, Conceptronic and, now, SRT machines. Bottom side IR is OK. Better thermal balance is achieved with hot air to ensure maximized heat distribution.
IR is a throwback to the good old days (10+ years ago) as it likes dark surfaces/objects and heats them readily. It "reflects" off shiney surfaces rendering heat transfer to a minimum. Simulating convection hot air reflow profiles is not possible during rework, but it is what we try to emulate to effect the highest quality.
