if the BGA has leaded balls use leaded paste if the BGA has lead free balls use lead free paste and set your oven profile to match the paste

If I have a leaded board (PCB) and the only component that I have to repair it is a lead-free BGA, what type of solder do I use, leaded or lead-free?

I'm about to begin a job for a customer placing a couple of lead free BGA's/FPGA's on an assembly that doesn't need to be RoHS compatible. So...my question is...should I process this assembly with lead-free solder paste, to accomodate the lead-free

I agree that in consumer electronics there may be nothing wrong with using a lead free BGA in a SnPb process, but that blanket statement can't be made for the high reliability market.

If you did not increase your heat to melt the lead free BGA balls, I would be very concerned.

Hi, Anyone have the DRS25 rework machine and use it for lead free BGA's? Anyone upgraded their DRS24 to a DRS25? We may pay to upgrade our 24 to a 25 to improve our Lead Free BGA rework process. Thanks, Rob

In case it is another component such as resistors or capacitors, does the same concept apply?

It depends. Probably it's fine for consumer products.

should I expect any issue using a lead free BGA with tin lead paste and oven profile???
