Pure (red) copper oxide is green, its not a residue its just oxidation. In your case water and heat will accelerate the oxidation process of unplated or unprotected pure copper. The best way to avoid this from happening is use a socket with tin or n

EDS @ 10kV maybe going too deep. I've talked to a surface science physicist that recommends Auger spectroscopy because it's more of a true "surface" examination tool.

Asoe, The systems you are describing are Resistivity of Solvent Extract (ROSE) Testers. These systems are available using one of two technologies, Static or Dynamic. Both systems use a calibrated test solution comprised of IPA and DI water. The t

Edmund: Responding to your questions: 1 What is purpose of using DI water to wash a PCBA? Compared to tap water, DI water is less likely to leave: Metal cations on sensitive components. Salts of Ca, Mg, and other stuff on metals on the assemb

PCB pad contamination

Hi, in past we had an issue with ENIG surface, black was Ni that get pass the Au - but it was discovered after reflow (SnPb) and the IC was losing contact with Cu tracks...at customers application :| Reason was as I remember too thin Au sufrace... w

PCB pad contamination

Hi All, I would like to get some inputs regarding this.... I have bare PCB which were stored with kapton tape attached on the Au plated pads. These were stored for close to a year. Upon removal of kapton tape, we noticed discolorations on the edges o

First, it's a surprise that your failure analysis lab thought everything was OK with these boards. They look like shit. Second, a few years ago, there was a bunch of complaints about ENIG boards with issues similar to what you're observing. There wa

PCb surface Resistance

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 18 08:19:12 EDT 1999 | Sergio Luiz Vito

There is a PCB with SMD components glued on bottomside. When I make tests for checking the resistance of glue the result is a break in the surface of PCB. How can I measure the surface resistance of PCB surface? How can I increase this resistance?
