Leadfree dip soldering

Electronics Forum | Wed May 04 11:54:29 EDT 2005 | HOSS

Rob, Are you hinting that the lead content of this component with dipped tin/lead solder would not be an issue with RoHS? If so, our understanding is that the legislation requires that the 6 banned substances cannot exist at greater than X% in any

Hi Hannu, You just gave a very realistic and practical view of the lead-free dilemma. The main reason that your coil coating doesn't get removed is because of the inability of lead free alloys to wet the surface and conduct the heat. Higher temperat

I would suggest lowering the viscosity even more. Humiseal even sells 1B31 pre-mixed specifically for spray machines and the highest they go is 65cps.

Baking prior to conformal coat

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 20 10:07:05 EDT 2005 | cecil

Does anyone have any input on the need to bake out an assembly prior to the conformal coat process? I understand baking out components/pwb's prior to processing through the reflow or wave solder process if the material shows excess moisture absorbtio

If there is no specific quality reason, stay with paste. More processes you add, more points of failure. They don't need a lot of paste to get attached to the board. The ones I used were 8mil round apertures, so I did cut 1:1 on a 3 mil coated stenci

Gloves for conformal coat masking

Electronics Forum | Tue May 25 07:19:13 EDT 2010 | jry74

I tried these and the operators didn't like them. The palm dip didn't slide well on tape and the finger tips were a bit bulky.

Baking prior to conformal coat

Hi! We have both Dip & Spray conformal coating processes & have never done any kind of baking before the process! I am assuming the reason for baking would be the same - ie, remove any moisture on the brds since moisture will create failure of the co

Gloves for conformal coat masking

Our employees use a knit style ESD glove when masking boards to prevent oils. They snag alot and bend leads and cause other problems. I have tried dipped palm but they are bulky and dont offer "feel". I tried a silky type but they had a huge seam

Acrylic conformal coat cure test method

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 28 20:10:08 EST 2001 | mhunter

Checked the archives with no luck. Anyone have a reliable test method of verifying acrylic conformal coat cure. Using Humiseal 1B31 mixed with approximately 30% solvent, spraying with a Nordson. Thanks in advance.
