With proper lead forming, a radial capacitor (1000uf, 25V) can be placed flush to the board. If you place it as you describe, does your product application environment require staking?

Thanks for sharing your work experience. I found a reference material with IPC standard (IPC 610) that specifies an exact heigth that a capacitor needs to be placed, I will check this standard specifications in more depth.

Davef, Thanks for the reply. I do not know if a radial capacitor needs to be secured with adhesive. The board in question is a class 2 device where high reliability needs to be achieved. I can not find any book references where adhesive application i

One thing I have run into when placing cap's flush to the board is blow holes due to the plastic sheathing used around the cap. It would form a gasket going through wave and exhaust out of the holes therefore blowing the solder out with it. This cap

capacitor leakage

a leakage exists in the capacitor net (1206), which cause the voltage down so much. the process flow is: printing-placement-reflow-hand load-wave-depanel-FT. I find possible stress maybe exists in the depanel stage, does the extra stress cause the ca

Aluminium capacitor rotation after soldering

We'have been working on an issue regarding aluminium capacitor placement in PCB. In fact, we have twisted (shifted) capacitors. Through root causes analysis, we confirmed that this phenomenon is happening during reflow process (no issue on placement

How much capacitor offset is acceptable?

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 18 16:43:22 EST 2006 | darby

Boomerang, You said you are new to this so, First question. Are the components placed correctly with no offset pre-reflow? If the answer is yes then it's happening in the oven. Most likely cause is pcb design. If the answer is no then you have a pla

Hi Prem, OK... Is it definitely ok before the oven, as it's a big part to move. Never had an issue with them. Has the part got the correct z height on or is the paste being displaced on placement What machine are you placing it with (is it laser

How much capacitor offset is acceptable?

Electronics Forum | Sun Dec 17 22:55:45 EST 2006 | foolat

I'd like to know how much capacitor offset from the pad should be acceptable? What are the risks of the placement offset if greater than the acceptable level? I'm still quite new to this so any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks
