Re: CSP Assembly- No-clean vs Aqueous

I'm afraid we don't agree regarding the best test method to use here. My understanding is as follows. The omegameter test measures board-level, ionic contamination (i.e., average for the entire board area and all components); it does not tell you w

Clean vs No-Clean

Because of our high volume production, we use no clean flux. We have experienced leakage currents with leadless QFNs. One problem is the part isn't being utilized as it should, but another is the flux residue. There is ionic residue in no-clean fl

Try the "straw test" to test for ionic contamination. For reference, here it is from the fine SMTNet archives: http://www.smtnet.com//forums/index.cfm?fuseaction=view_thread&CFApp=1&Thread_ID=496&#Message3044

Chosing ENIG vs OSP

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 02 17:45:46 EDT 2009 | boardhouse

Hi Nicoleta, As a board shop, either are good choices but in my experience with my customers ENIG has alway been the favorite due to it is easier to work with in regards to not having to tweak your equipment. As long as the board shop that you are u

If I'm not mistaken, XJN is an inorganic highly ionic saponifier. If not completely rinsed off, I would expect that you would get ionic residue.

Clean vs No Clean PCB assembly process

We run both NC and OA flux, although the majority of our product is run on OA. For application not requiring uBGA, we find the benefits of NC elusive, at best. What? .... Your customer recognizes that initially the NC res in non-ionic, but sticky.

Ionic contamination vs selective soldering ?

Electronics Forum | Mon Mar 17 18:37:59 EDT 2008 | aqueous

We manufacture both bulk and localized ionic contamination testers. My answer is from the perspective of the cleanliness testing method. The issue with all bulk ionic contamination testers (Ionagraph, Omegameter, Zero-Ion), is that they test the en

I'm curious over what would happen if we continue to use the WS paste when dealing with uBGA. Definitely the cured flux under uBGA package couldn't be cleaned/reached and as I understand correctly they are corrosive. if that so, how long do you guys

Thank You Michael, as I read on previous contamination related topics I planned to ask your opinion on that directly :-) but You were faster than my action :) I will share Your opinion internally and hopefully we will take further actions best reg
