I use a clinch of 5 and a length of 3 for 1/4w and thicker leg diodes probably a 7 and 5. You really just have to play with the machine it figure out what works best for your application.

headers skewing on alluminum board

Good afternoon, We are running some aluminum boards through a 7 zone reflow oven which have 2 4 pin right angled headers on the ends that are skewing. Does anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening?

In 2014 we paid about $40K USD for a new Heller 1707 MKIII (no nitrogen) which is a 7 zone oven. One does not need a 8-10 zone oven unless you are doing high volume. We use the 1707 for everything including lead or lead-free solder, 0.031" to 0.093

Nathan, look into a 7 or 8 zone oven. Depending on your baord size, a 5 zone may get you by. If you do plan to get larger work orders, go big on your oven now. It will pay off in the long run. Plus your window for profiling will be easier.

Well, I was using a quad QSV-1 for boards this size. Not the fastest, but it was able to handle the large boards in a pass through machine. Keep in mind the board thickness, as well. Anything over 0.2" will not fit in the clamps of the conveyors.
