| Can anyone give me the virtues of SMT package castellations vs. no castellations with particular reference to the ruggedness and reliability of the solder joints? Any references or studies that you can point me to? Also, although I'm in favor of

Castellated Module Reflow Problems

Hi, We are producing a board that contains an RN4678 bluetooth module, and an STLINK-V3MODS module, both of which are castellated modules. I am constantly having issues with the modules being soldered to the PCB incorrectly. It seems that the RN4678

Castellated Solder Pads

I am student at Northern Illinois University and am doing a senior design project on applying castellated solder pads (pads on the side of the substrate) to a hybrid circuit. I have had difficulty finding related articles. I found this website and

Soldering Issue in Sensor component

Electronics Forum | Fri Dec 27 13:16:18 EST 2019 | slthomas

Can you describe the failure mode of the soldering defect, i.e., is it failing to meet the height requirement for a castellated termination due to not wetting of the component terminations, or not wetting the pads sufficiently, or....? We install a

SMD module moving during reflow

Hi, I have a SMD radio module that has castellated Pads along one edge of the module. The pick and place machine appears to place them very well but when the boards come out of the reflow oven then up to 20% of them have either rotated a few degrees

SC44 Solder Paste Design

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 09 10:34:19 EST 2005 | Ron

Is anyone currently reflowing a board with SC44 devices on it. This is a 6pin SAW filter with castellated terminations. I'm looking for a solder paste design for this part. I currently use a laser cut 6mil thick stencil.

Many aspects cause such problem, stencil windows and thickness, thermal pad and crowded PTH vias on PCB, the castellated pad size and pcb pad size. Do you have picture for reference?

Generally we overprint on the exposed part of these pads. When there isn't enough clearance at the end of the pad we place solder preforms with the placement machine. Jerry

Yes they are far from ideal. What do you mean by profiling on the problem leads? And yes there is a lack of solder on some, but there are no vias in or near any of the pads that could be stealing solder

Overprint, that is putting extra solder on with the stencil that is even further out from the pads, with the idea that it will suck that solder up during reflow? I could give that a try. Are there any general recommendations when overprinting? And wh
