I think the laser etcher is the way to go. Practice on some obsolete stencils so you can determine the correct settings for the material.

You could also try something like a Radian desktop fiber laser as a smaller, low cost alternative to accurately and permanently engrave each stencil frame!

Also, if you use etching pen, clean the surface first with solvent as grease blocks the etchant. Some rubbing with steel wool should also help.

Thank you for your response! I think, the labels seem more elegant and offer the flexibility of being reversible if the labeling isn't satisfactory. However, the punch numbers themselves are also a viable solution, so thank you for that suggestion
