I've never heard of such thing!!! We do occasionally have problems with fiducial recognition and have a difficult time convincing our operators not to use pencil erasers on them. The erasers take care of the recognition problems, but leave shavings

You don't mention any particular IC or manufacturer or marking method. However, most IC marking is done with lasers these days. The laser actually alters the encapsulation so the only way to erase the marking is to remove the encapsulation. Otherwise

You might try a no HASL spec on your fids...but shelf life may hamper copper quality. Not a pleasant situation...opertors tend to polish the fids with erasers to compensate but this leads to eraser "bits" in your equipment and your solder! Maby op

did you try DRY ERASE markers? ( the ones used for white boards). It's just a thought, I'm not sure if that will work. Doesn't hurt to try.
