A gap of 150-200 between potential shadow components is enough to eliminate those problems. Dave, Can you clarify? Do you mean 0.015 to 0.02?? Peter

So what are your current drying parameters? can you adjust temp and time? is this a batch cleaner that may have some shadowing from the way it is loaded causing hot air to not hit certain boards? Russ

It's all about "exercising" the flux and making sure that what is left over, is benign. When the process is correct, the residue should like like a shadow and present no pooling, lumping, etc.

Larry, It is generally bad practice to place high profile parts, like TANTalum Capacitors on the bottom side. They are more likely to shadow, and also, the odd termination that covers only a very small part of the body makes it prone to solder skip

I guess it depends on the size of the cap. I find that shadowing of other parts is the problem with Tant-caps. Tell the Gurus to stop picking on your Mom.

We use a Marantz ISpector and as long as you program it correctly, taking into consideration any shadowing from adjacent parts, it does a superb job catching non-solders, head in pillow and insufficients.

Looks like an improvement to the spinning stuff, but gads, I wish these people would stop using the term slice. The Teradyne still does not create a slice. It infers things from different sized shadows. It still cannot actually image a slice thoug

Xrays go through aluminum quite well. I've xrayed BGAs with heat sinks that were well over an inch tall and they only made faint shadows. What material is the bottom of the PCB? And how are you going to bond to it?
