Solder cover

IPC also states that side overhang on a gull wing of 50% is acceptable for Class 2. Does anyone know if that interprets to only one side having a fillet? Also with toe overhang acceptable, there need not be a toe fillet.

Toe fillets are not required per IPC, you can actually have toe overhang. Russ

QFNs (LCCs)

Ditto what Russ said. We are doing the same with the same results. We also will add 10-15mils to the toe end of the pads to have some chance at forming a toe fillet. MFG'r recommended padstacks are not to be trusted. We only process with no-clean

QFNs (LCCs)

We generaly reduce 25% and get great heat sink capability. Mind you that we do not perferate the pad with vias as recommended. Our toe ends are not plated, so getting any toe fillet is impossible.

AOI-problems lifted lead on qfp-100

It is possible to infer that the lead is lifted based on the toe fillet appearance, but it's not as reliable as say a laser or xray inspection. This is usually done by varying the light source location and or color and looking at the images resultin

Burr Brown ICs bad solderability

Jandon, what is wrong with the picture you posted? Looks good to me? The first pix Wewilldoit posted were kinda scetchy except for the one with the bent up lead. It's not the toe fillets people - it's the heel fillets you have to look at.

How to improve the solder quality of QFN?

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 06 12:25:55 EDT 2005 | HOSS

Bob, We have seen this same issue and haven't found a solution other than touching up to create a toe fillet. Luckily, it's a low volume product, for now. What have you done to combat this? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I will inform the QA department about the lack of a toe fillet. I am sure it will be an issue.

Hitachy QFP 256 leads problems

When you say "No wetting" you mean the paste looks the same as it did going in but dried out? Or is it that you are not getting toe fillets?

is not getting toe fillet, you can se like a "paste dome" on the pad so the paste is not flowing to the pin...
