Thanks Robl. I’ve contacted samtec followed their advice but ended up empty handed. Originally my stencil thickness is 6 mils, samtec stressed the need for the paste and charge to have good contact but this is challenged by the inherent charge non-co

Avillaro, would you say that vapor phase process was selected, because the boards are so thick and heavy? I would assume so. Have you ever tried to run them through reflow oven? To understand better your challenge, we need to understand the setup be

Having 10c thermal differential is a lot. Trying different paste might help - usually thermal expansion makes component detach from PCB, then joint is formed and solidified, then component goes back but is too late to form a joint. Cooling speed migh

Hi Evtimov, Thanks for your response. Yes, the vapour phase is suppose to handle big and heavy boards, at least thats the intention. Well our thin board is like around 3mm which is not really thin. In our application the thicker the boards means more

As far as the large thermal gradient I have on my thick and thermal heavy board, I've done quite a bit to minimize the gradient but not successful. it's like one pad is connected to a signal while the other pad is connected to ground, you can't bring

Lead Free Solder Wick

Is "Lead Free" solder wick really any different than regular solder wick? It's only copper infused with flux so I don't see what the difference would be. I see in the catalogs that the LF wick costs more than the regular wick. Do I need to use LF

Solder Wicking on CBGA?

Hi, Does anyone has experiences in reflowing Ceramic BGA and found solder wicking ? Solder wicking has the syndrome that solder being wick from the pad and ended up in the leads. We have rule out the possibility of not printing any solder paste there

Brad; I think the only difference is the color of the packaging that it comes in. We use the same type solder wick on both lead and lead free solder with no problems. We just paint or color the packaging green for the lead free solder wick to keep t

Steve; This is true if you want to use the solder wick that comes with the flux in it. We use no flux added solder wick. We use our normal flux then when we remove solder.

You say, "we have encountered solder wicking on components ..." We expect to see wicking on solder connections. Maybe we're just using different terminology. Please describe the problem that you're seeing.
