Square apertures can have a larger area within the same space than a round aperture. You can buy IPC 7525 from IPC. The theory you are missing has to do with: * Aspect ratio * Area ratio Search the fine SMTnet Archives for background on these rati

I am interested to know what people prefer for fine pitch packaging. Tape/Reel or Waffle tray for .031", .025", .020", .015" pitch components? What is the most robust packaging (i.e. fewer bent leads, etc.) Chuck

What do you all do to fix coplanarity on fine pitch QFPs? I know that the best thing would be to send them back to the vender, but what about the when you gotta use them? Straightening by hand seems to be so time comsuming. Any better ways? Larry

Is there a chart available to use in identifying the pitch of fine pitch components - one with which a components leads could be matched ( similar to that of the component's "footprint" on the pcb ) ?

Hold it!!! Call Bob over at Tri-Metal Fabricators and ask him to make you one for about 10% of the price a fine OEM would charge. Might not a a fancy anodized finish, but at the end of the day, it'll hold yer trays just fine.

I would assume the IP2 version is similar to the IP3. I've installed 2 of the IP3 ones and they work fine. The retro is pretty simple. Tape and reel is fine if you have the room on the MFU's, we didn't have that luxury though.

Dennis: We stepped stencils on the board side to accomidate additive jumpers. They work fine. The steps are not close enough to affect fine pitch devices. Please describe how the stencil is sffected in the area of your FP devices. Dave F
