High TG?

Electronics Forum | Mon Nov 13 09:22:10 EST 2006 | aj

Hi all, Should we need to order the Higher TG to run boards safely thru a RoHS Process (reflow only)? We had an issue with the previous batch delaminating and were advised by supplier that we should have stated the higher TG rating even though the p

FR 406 not Rohs Compliant?

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 11 14:48:25 EDT 2007 | rgduval

My boss just received some info through a design mailing list that he's on claiming that FR406 is not RoHS compliant based on the limited number of processing cycles at RoHS compliant temperatures. I would guess that this is related to the relativel

For very simple boards, 2 layers lightly populated with light thermal mass, we still use FR4. For most of our Pb-Free boards we use the higher Tg material with moisture-resistant packaging. We are a CM so we don't usually get to change many of the

For those of you who've completely switched to Pb-Free or who're running in a mixed environment, are you also buying or specifying the "RoHS PCBs" - the ones with * Greater Tg (glass transition temperature) * Thru-holes with limited drill hits and

I've been running 90% lead-free (still have a couple components I can't get reliably in RoHS compliance) with a peak temp of about 238 C, on standard FR-4 boards. The only real problem is the pad adherence is compromised, making rework of the boards

RoHS parts - leaded solder

Jimmy, We've been soldering tin plated components and Ni/Sn (100% Tin) boards with leaded solder in the 80's in hirel and military applications. We never experienced reliability issues with the mechanical or electrical properties of the solder joint

Hi, I authored the presentation so I may be able to help you out with your Q's. 1. IPC is in draft stage for 4 new material specs. These are in the presentation. I would focus on IPC 4101/ 121 and /124. Match your current Tg requirement to the T

Real Chunks...Yes, that's the most glaringly obvious defect in the short term (you'll probably find it on your production floor if it's really bad) but you may find that everything looks good short term only to have a high level of customer returns..

board delaminated after reflow

Hi, Need a little more info, 1) this board is definitely delaminated 2) this board looks like a Std FR4 board with 63/37 Hot air finish with probably 140 tg. material. Was this reflowed under lead free temps? 3) Do you Pre-bake product 4) What

Let's face it guys...in most cases (stress the MOST!) a typical FR4 board will do the job. Few layers, low copper, not too densly populated etc...no worries. Use a reflow profile which avoids the 245-250C range, use a shorter TAL, Viola you have a go
