SMT voiding

Electronics Forum | Tue Sep 25 11:50:37 EDT 2012 | davef

Ken ... I resized your picture so that it fits on the page better. Continuing with your outgassing through the solder pads theory, how thick is the copper on the pads? I don't expect to see outgassing through pad that are a thou or more in thickness

PCB Delamination

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 06 17:43:10 EDT 2013 | davef

I agree with SOB. First, someone is thinking too much and has too much idle time. And second, controlling volatiles from routine fluxing should be much more concerning than volatiles from out-gassing from delamination. In most plants, delamination is

Components randomly wiped out in reflow

Normally some random components of size 0604 or below and may be due to a thermal mass being close like a transformer or AC electrolytic caps. We tried changing fan speed, but this will change the thermal profile and avoid the thermal mass from bein

Pin headers

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 20 20:25:10 EDT 2021 | stephendo

Why not do the other side first. And paste the pins from the connector side? Or maybe using solder preforms on the leads might work if you are afraid of the connector squishing the paste. I'm guessing the headers are raising because of the outgassing

Silver Sulphide Contamination of Resistors

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 23 16:11:51 EST 2001 | Dave E

The sulphur outgassing from these rubber bands was >enough to contaminate every board... Well, if every rubber band is a threat then sulphur contamination must be a common problem. Are sulphur test kits available?

Bottom side process question

Electronics Forum | Thu Mar 15 11:12:45 EST 2001 | slthomas

solder, but flux -> adhesive. Hmmmmm.... Are the chemists working hard to reduce the consequences of these possibilities? And as to Dave's comment about long term reliability issues due to outgassing from the adhesive, double-hmmmmmmm....... Ther

Dream, Sound's to me like your PCB supplier has process problems, probably outgassing or such from trapped moisture / contaminant's. I thoink it's time you called in your vendor for a chat. JohnW

SOT23 jumping off pads when reflowing

Check the tant cap for outgassing, tant caps are notorious for breaking wind and moving parts. Try baking the caps.

Out gassing of Tantalum capacitors.

Hi all, With regards to the recent thread about jumping sot23.I was wondering if there are any white papers or technical articles on the phenomon of outgassing tantalum capacitors. Regards, Mantis

Exhaust on Reflow Oven

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 21 14:27:14 EDT 2005 | Dreamsniper

Defects will result, Your cooling rate is affected because the hot air is not circulated properly. Outgassing will appear and you'll have pin holes / blow holes, disturbed joint etc. Correct me guys if i'm wrong. Thanks
