Parylene Coating

Electronics Forum | Mon Apr 26 15:10:46 EDT 2004 | pjc

Parylene coating is done in vacuum curing chambers. This process drives the material under components and into all nooks and crannies. There is nowhere on the board assembly that can escape from the material! I've only seen Parylene coating process u

Parylene Coating and BGA Reliability

Electronics Forum | Fri Oct 18 12:40:35 EDT 2013 | robertwillis

Back in the mists of time there were two papers on the use of Parylene Coating and the improved thermal cycling results in 1990. It was on LCCC then shortly after on BGA. Does anyone know of results of recent trials or have a copy of the BGA papers.

It really depends on what method you used to mask. Liquid mask, tape, rubber boots, etc. It is something most learned thru trial and error, much like running the parylene machine. It's never as easy as loading it up, turn it on and watch it go!

UV Tracer in Parylene

Has anyone done any testing with UV tracer in Parylene processing? Does it cause adhesion problems? Does anyone have any data they can share on this.

UV Tracer in Parylene

I had read somewhere that parylene absorbs UV radiation, and therefore offers very low UV protection. So, yeah probably not a good idea. Plus since it's vapor deposited, unless there is no access to a surface, all surfaces are covered.

Q1: Can they be masked so parylene doesn't get underneath? A1: Your parylene applyer may be able to mask area, but in general no. This stuff is cured in a vacuum chamber to make sure that it gets into every past corner. Q2: How do you remove and re

| Has anyone out there tried to parylene coat plastic parts prior to soldering them to a pcb? I'm looking at several potential applications where fewer than 5% of my components on a pcb are plastic, yet from a reliability aspect (environmental condit
