Rob gave you very good analysis and suggestions for troubleshooting your non-wetting issue. We agree with his sequence of troubleshooting. The following comments are meant to be a line to supplement Rob's plan of attack. This adds to Rob's comment

Thinking about it... If your sphere diameters were all the same, then your planarity should be established. Sounds like a job for an AOI type machine, with a laser height checker. I take it you have many of these to check, and are looking for someth

Hi Paul, Another method of achieving a planar surface is PPT. This may alleviate the problem your having. For additional information you can visit our web site at masktek.com. Joanne DeBlis

While trying to sell me a low temperature baking system for SMDs the salesman mentioned that the 125C for 24hr bake had been known to cause co-planarity defects. I thought I'd ask some experts. Any help guys?

The screen we had is a Planar EL7768MS. There is a small DC/DC power supply board attahced to the back of the touch screen. That PS board was toasted and caused the failure of the screen. Steve

we need a soldering nozzle for this package that can be placed by the rework machine on a pads of this qfp (to make the pads planar) and then send a hot air and after the solder joint melt stop the hot air and pull up the nozzle do we have such mach

Thanks, Stephen. I'm actually leaning towards that (knit line fractures), since it's the only thing I've found that really supports the fractures being planar like they are.

the implication being the soldermask is too thick, raising the top of the board higher than the pads themselves (eliminating gasketing)? Essentially, the board isn't perfectly planar would be the subject of cause it sounds like?

Based on these pictures, please check Board/Stencil co-planarity. Sometimes there might be a distance/gap between them helping this phenomenon(solder mask might be too thick). Also decreasing print speed, might help to mitigate it. You might be too f
