Good point about the paste. We are using Kester 256 anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with this stuff? We have had pretty good luck thus far with it. Thanks JD

Really you think the 256 is the issue eh? I have some a sample of the type 4 powder size coming in hopefully today. Hopefully that will help, if not its back to the old solder eval drawing board. I love my job...

I guess the first thing to look at is the temperature. We had to heat more for QFP256 on sample boards and we saw discoloration on some small parts. Just try to sense around when profiling to see what's there.

Im using kester easy profile 256 and just this week started seeing problems with the paste being to thick sticking to the sqeeges and not going thur the screen this is not a lead free paste but it is a keester product

Check your expiration/storage/shipping conditions. We've been using EP256 for a couple of years and it works excellent. Never had any problems with it.

A no-clean paste with an above average amount of halides should do the trick. Kester EP256HA is a good choice for this application if you are using a leaded alloy (Sn63 or Sn62).
