X5R dielectric aging

Electronics Forum | Fri May 29 15:03:46 EDT 2009 | rway

We have recently begun using X5R dielectric capacitors. Although they have a better temperature coefficient over Y5V, they age much faster (5-7% logarithmically per decade). I assume the reason for using the X5R was the availability of the capacita

Chip Cap Specs

Can someone explain what ageing means in terms of chip caps. Capacitor vendors state 7% per decade hour or 2-5-1 per decade hour. What does this mean? I think capacitor values lower over time but what is a decade hour. Thanks, Chris

Interesting. I'd start with the "Help Desk" at the Reliability Analysis Center [http://rac.iitri.org/]. Please get back with your findings.

capacitor shelf life

Tantalum caps degrade over time. You should not be seeing "chipped-off & cracks" regardless of the age. This should not be a shelf-life issue, unless you are storing them in an aquarium. Tell us the story. Solderability is a shelf-life issue and

Question on Nitrogen Consumption during Reflow

It's possible that N2 vogued at the dawn of the NC age. Once practitioners jiggered their profiles and more importantly, paste suppliers developed a decent product; the demand for inerts declined. Day-off sound like a fair trade.

What is new in the age of the Internet? Once new meant 3 or 4 weeks, now it means 3 or 4 days, if not 3 or 4 hours. Jeff Ferry

Fyi, I just came across this the other day and you should look GSC, info@gogsc.com. They have been around for ages and do a great job for Lucnet.

What is a good spec for board warpage?

Electronics Forum | Wed Dec 19 07:45:01 EST 2001 | nicholt

We are using a age old warpage spec of .010 inch per inch max warpage spec. Is there a recommended warpage spec for surface mount boards?
