Hi, 1) Was reading the links provided by Dave F, under the thread "waste" which was about the ESD grounding of drums. 2) thanks to Dave F, now have "back-bone" refer sources to explain ESD terms to those who ask and seek to better understand this n

PROPER GROUNDING OF THE "OBJECT" PCBA BOARD: You cannot ground an insulator. Insulators accumulate a charge, but the charge must be neutralized, usually by ionization. We only use ionizers at tape stations and bins where travelers and other paper

First of all, did you profile this board with a mole, such as a KIC? Is the solder flowing, or just not wetting to the part or pad? I work with RF boards as well, but the main problem is tombstoning due to the ground plane side being larger because o

Hi, talking about ESD. Is there a recomendation for your building itself to be grounded? Lets say you are using esd wax, What happen with discharges? If wax conducts thes charge, where are they going? Do I need ground my builduing? Regards JC

Check the ground plane for noise with a scope. Steppers are very sensitive to spurs and will step in response to noise. Resistance welders on the same ground loo[ can be a problem as can seam sealers etc. Denis M Manncorp

Check with your soldering iron supplier. We'd expect them to say: * Tip to Ground Resistance:

We'd guess that you want the ESD ground at the same point as the building ground for personnel safety reasons. Injured employees and OSHA inspector should be enough to convice the old timers [in most plants].

Without getting into an electrical field promoting bone growth... As long as he is grounded through heal straps and/or wrist straps, it should be fine. Although I imagine being grounded would neutralize the "Bone Grower"

Dear SMTNetters: What are some favorite techniques for getting all of the solder from a plated throughhole on a heavy ground plane area? We are using a SAC 405 alloy. Regards BWET
