Lead free HASL coatings can be susceptible to yellowing during reflow due to oxidation of the tin in the coating. Some HASL solder suppliers use anti-oxidant additives in the solder to limit or prevent yellowing of the coating. You may want to ask

Hi Eric, you have the right reduction on the stencils apertures? Also, a very oxidized solder paste can -and will do- promote and increase both the tombstoning as well as the solder balls.

What really happens during the oxidisation process during reflow soldering? Where does the oxide goes...mix with flux etc...Is there a tin-oxide and lead oxide during the process? I believe that during wave soldering the oxides become dross...but wha

Bare inconel is NOT ment to take solder, because * Nickel develops a tenacious oxide layer that is very difficult to remove since the nature of the oxide is very dense, coherent, etc. * Chromium is difficult to solder. * Iron is difficult to solder.

Could be lots of things. With limited information about temperatures, solder alloy, and cleaning; we'll swing for the fence that you got these solder connections very hot. So hot that Pb oxide is dominating the solder joint surface instead of the

Recently on one product, I found a white residue on the solder joints only that is more of a gray in color. Our lab told us it was a tin oxide with an unknown organic. This is with a lead free OA paste and it only shows after wash. Has anyone seen

So that is common when the temp on the wash is high? The temp was adjusted for a flux that required a higher temp. How much of an issue is this tin oxide?

Sirs, Please do me a favor to answer the following questions, thanks a million! 1. Will the baking of BGA or PCB cause more oxidation before the SMT process? 2. What is the acceptable Life Time of solderability at customer site? The time that the sol
