Ovens, and any other process for that matter, will ALWAYS vary. It's called process variation. I do Cpk (process capability) on my ovens. I track time-above-liquidus and peak temperatures. Statistics will validate how repeatable your oven is.

For the reflow process check out KIC THERMAL at kicthermal.com. They make a product called 24/7 which can collects data for process capability. I beta tested the unit about 2 years ago....interesting stuff.

Choices are: * Run a Cp, Cpk capable profiler through the oven. * Review the results of your supplier's process qualification that would include Cp, Cpk on their oven. Handspring contract [REV. 6 - 7/1/99] with Flextronics says: [snip] 4. Process Ca

I agree with Dave that passte volume is the most preferable criteria. However, you need to determine what you will accept and what your process is capable of. You need to define the process parameters, put procedures in place to control them, reduc

FORMULA OTHER THAN LxBxZ? - Paste is X% [X=~50] metal by volume. Your paste supplier knows the value of 'X'. HOW TO ACHIEVE A CONSTANT REFLOW PROCESS CAPABILITY? - Buy a capable oven, operate and calibrate it properly.

I was unaware of any Pb-Free process capable FR-1 laminate... not to mention capable of Though Hole plating that would be expected when wave soldering. What is the Td and Z-expansion for the laminate you are using?

For attribute data, the process capability is reflected by the process average nonconforming (e.g.p bar). Reference the automotive group's AIAG SPC Manual. Hope this helps, Susan

Process capability indices are pretty well documented. Consider: 1 A good general SPC book like: Statistical Quality Control; EL Grant & RS Leavenworth; Mcgraw-Hill; ISBN 0078443547 2 Other good books are: Statistical Process Control For SMT; WS
