Tombstone caused by flux residue

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 14 04:28:45 EDT 2005 | lloyd

Folks, Thanks for all the info and suggestions but let me add a bit more to the pot. Our products work in a harsh environment and are classed as safety critical. Customer returns are our biggest concern, we don't get very many and feeling here seem

Same wave process do not apply to all finish board

Here's what I believe is happening. The main difference between the HASL boards and the gold plated boards is that HASL boards are pre-soldered. HASL boards need very little flux activity to get good hole fill and the machine settings have a wide pro

Thanks aj, Ohh I wish that there was a way to post a picture in this forum or a possibility to attach the datasheet... Which BTW does not have any recommendation of "how to". This package does not have the "center thermal pad" like a QFN or MLF pack

To use a mini stencil, or not to use a mini stencil.

We always apply solder paste to either the PCB pads or the BGA balls. I have found that only using liquid or tacky flux does not always ensure proper wetting of the pads. Also The BGA sits closer to the PCB making cleaning and endoscopic inspection

Hi all, I understand that this forum is more to surface mount discussion. But I am eager in sorting out the spray fluxer problem. Please provide me with any ideas that you think might cause it. I have a problem in starting up/initialising the wave

Hi everyone, First post here. I am completely new to smt as well. We are a small startup and would like improve our in-house smt assembly capability from manual assembly. We are looking at small production runs, initially about a total of 200 board

As the subject says, the trouble started when the computer (Windows 98) drove me nuts starting up in the morning. The Engineer comes along NEVER ASK ME ANYTHING, and thinks the network should have some network protocol (Example equivalent to TCP/IP

Solder Ball Attach (BGA)

We are attaching 0.50mm diameter SAC 305 solder balls onto 0.38 diameter Au plated pins placed at a 0.80mm pitch (pins are pressed into a plastic insulator). A tacky flux is then stenciled onto the pins using a stencil with.a 0.38mm diameter aperture

Thanks for all the input! I should clarify a couple things. We are a contract manufacturer; we simply build to our customer's design prints. This particular board, we outsourced because of some requirements for processes we don't do in-house. So, we
