IPC’s Hand Soldering World Championship was held November 14 at productronica 2019 in Munich, Germany. This global event included 17 competitors representing companies in France, Hungary, Indonesia, Poland, Germany, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam, United Kingdom, Japan, India, China and the Philippines.

Despite chilly temperatures in Munich last week, things got “heated” as 43 competitors went soldering iron to soldering iron at IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at productronica 2013, November 12–15. Emerging victorious and taking first place, a cash prize of €500 and a new soldering station from JBC Tools, was Jacek Majchrzak, PartnerTech, Poland.

A record number of 47 European competitors went soldering iron to soldering iron at IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at productronica 2015, November 10–13 in Munich. Taking first place with a score of 501 points out of a maximum 506, was Jacek Majchrzak, ParterTech Poland. Majchrzak was also crowned first place winner at productronica 2013.

The competition was fierce as a new record of 43 competitors competed at IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at SMT Hybrid Packaging 2016 in Nuremberg, Germany. Taking first place and a cash prize of €300 was Ekatarina Stahlmann of Grundig Business Syst., who earned 495 points out of 506.

The competition was fierce as 34 competitors participated in the IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at SMT Hybrid Packaging 2017 in Nuremberg, Germany. Taking first place and a cash prize of €300 was Elaine Chesnais, Thales International, who earned 433 points out of a possible 437. Chesnais was the second-place winner at SMT in 2016.

The competition was fierce as 27 competitors went soldering iron to soldering iron in IPC’s Hand Soldering Regional Qualification Competition at SMT Hybrid Packaging 2018 in Nuremberg, Germany. Of the 27 boards submitted by the competitors only four of the electronic assemblies were functional. Taking first place and a cash prize of €300 was Catherine Cardinal-Simoan, Thales International, who earned 422 points out of a possible 445.

IPC's national hand soldering competitions return to Europe this year with events scheduled in France, Estonia, and Germany. Although the 2021 IPC Hand Soldering World Championship was canceled due to ongoing pandemic concerns, skilled competitors in Europe will participate in national competitions at scheduled live tradeshows.
