It is a serius problem with that mulilayer ceramic caps! In automotive applications you have to use 2 in series for one single cap. During depanelizing you create a mechanically wave in the board, so 3.. 4 mm. Best way is not to do such a wrong desig

If you can't get rid of all caps near the edges, don't forget Neil's advice above regarding parallel vs. perpendicular. I have seen a 90 degree rotation make a huge improvement in the reliability of some caps.

Yes you are correct Barry. The Suction tape provides a flat surface for the PNP nozzle to pick -up. In some cases I have seen a plastic "cap" ove rthe pins to provide the same thing. The cap can be reused. Both require, unfortunatly, manual removal

I've seen cracked caps due to de-panelling on caps 40mm in from a board edge, if the cap lies on a stress line it can be cracked quite far in, i'd go with the other replies and make sure you use a "pizza cutter" type de-panelling machine for v-scored

Can someone explain what ageing means in terms of chip caps. Capacitor vendors state 7% per decade hour or 2-5-1 per decade hour. What does this mean? I think capacitor values lower over time but what is a decade hour. Thanks, Chris

Hello, can anyone recommend a conductive epoxy for printing and 0402 cap attach? We have some short issues underneath the 0402 caps with our current epoxy. Any input is appreciated. Thanks a lot...

How many times can I reflow SMT components such as SMT Ceramic Chip Caps (0603 and 0805), Res Caps, TSSOP's, SOIC's Tant Caps etc? Will I have a problem exposing them 4 to 6 times of reflow? Will I damage them? What will go wrong with that process?
