Push&Pull Test of Fine Pitch Components

Sounds like an ideal method for damaging fragile solder connections, eh? Is your customer paying extra for this 'inspection'?

Thermocouple

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 12 11:41:53 EST 2004 | pjc

Don't detach the bead and don't twist the wires! The bead should be what makes contact with where you want to measure temperature. Tape is not the ideal method to attached thermocouples for reflow soldering but is OK when using for wave solder prehea

Moisture Sensitive Devices

Electronics Forum | Thu May 06 14:22:06 EDT 2004 | Rob

Okay... to follow-up on my scenario. Would it be cheaper to get a resealer with dessicants and humidity indicators or a baking oven, or both. Is there a moisture controlled storage cabinet (ideally 3'x6'x1' or in that vicinity)? Would be interested

Low cost Thermocouples

Electronics Forum | Thu Sep 30 13:49:35 EDT 2004 | bbarr

This is what I use: http://www.omega.com/Temperature/pdf/5TC.pdf or http://www.omega.com/Temperature/pdf/5LSC_5SRTC.pdf The 36 and 40 AWG sizes are ideal (TT insulation.) $430 for 9 thermocouples seems real high.

BGA's, 0402's and HASL Boards

Electronics Forum | Wed Dec 22 08:49:55 EST 2004 | markhoch

I'm looking for some data to support my argument that HASL boards are not the most ideal boards for manufacturing involving BGA's and 0402's. I'm sure one of you SMT Gurus out there can point me in the right direction! Thank you in advance!

AOI Systems

I agree with the stand alone option. That way you can sample PCB's from different stages ( print, placement post reflow) In a controled process, after reflow inspection would be ideal.

Via tenting/filling with BGAs

Electronics Forum | Wed Mar 23 22:28:10 EST 2005 | KEN

I ran into this yesterday. Seems some designer decided to not solder resist the via's on the solder side. Then the assembly went over the wave solder in a universal fixture. Not an ideal situation.

Seeking very low volume production reflow oven

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 25 10:18:58 EDT 2006 | slthomas

This is as much a question of the forum as it is a response, but a small batch oven with programmable profiling, quick response and forced cooling sounds ideal. My question is do they even exist, and if so are they cost prohibitive to the market tha

Chunks, Have you been off on a Yogic enlightenment course, or does the filter need changing on the purex unit nearest your desk? "Idealism increases in direct proportion to one's distance from the problem."

SAC305 Solder Balling

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 15 15:56:37 EDT 2006 | Chunks

Ball SACs are not hard to over come. Most people solder these devices well using a straight ramp with a slight knee right before liquidous. Ramp-soak-and spike would not an ideal way to reflow.....
