Regarding X-ray I was referring to ssager's comment "...X-Ray is only as good as the human eye that is operating it...". I thought x-ray images could be checked by software algorithms to find defects, not only human eye?

Can anyone give me some insight into what to look for on a used X-Ray machine. Or just any thoughts on using X-Ray inspection. We are getting more and more QFNs and our inspection seems a little subjective. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. Are you sure that it should really work as drawn? Or the mirrored ray( blue colour) will go differently because there is a total internal reflection? And the correct path of the mirrored blue ray is like that green ray?

Does anyone have experience with DAGE Assure, Hawkeye 1000, XRHCount or similar X-ray component counters? I myself have no experience with any X-ray equipment so any kind of feedback is important.

Dave: You pose a very good question. We have been in the electronics x-ray inspection business for 18-1/2 years and, to date, we have not received a single report of damage associated with x-ray exposure. However... we do see signs of long term x-ra

We are a small PCBA contract manufacturer based in Malaysia. Sometimes, our customers request us to provide X-ray inspection on BGAs. Due to our production mode is towards high-mix low-volume, it is a bit difficult justifying purchase of X-ray inspec

BGA's are not difficult, but should be inspected no matter how careful you are. Here we have been doing bga's forever and x-ray 100%. Without an x-ray there is no good way to ensure the BGA is placed properly, without bridging or insufficients. If yo

We have found a significant number of PBGA problems associated with physical deformation of the package. Deformations such as dishing (potatoe chipping) and delamination under the die (popcorning). These can be detected by x-ray by the variation patt

Dave; See my answer to "Alternate to X-ray" The combination of endoscope optical inspection with x-ray inspection provides the most effective means of BGA inspection. Transmission x-ray provides a very rapid means of qualifying then process control o
