SMD solder joint calculation

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 16 15:22:29 EST 2002 | Terry Burnette

In his book titled "Manufacturing Techniques for Surface Mount Assemblies" author R.J. Klein Wassink describes the relationship between solder land dimensions, component lead coplanarity, board warpage, solder volumes, and solder paste flux wetting b

Thanks for the info, Here is a couple more questions (and you thought you were done) What size are these caps /res? how thick is your stencil? what type of oven are you using? what is the finish of the board? Anyway, it seems like (from a distance)t

Re: solder balling

Here is some thing that I wrote a while back on solder beading. First what is a Solder Bead? The term solder bead is used to differentiate it from solder balls. A solder bead is a solder ball but its location is normally constant unlike solder bal

Help needed to solder poorly designed SMT LED's

First, I don't have a clear fix on the problem. Please drill-down to more detail. We appreciate that you probably don't know the parlance. Just describe what you have and then what you'd like to have. Second, most 0402 LED are fabricated just lik

solder balls - Possible root causes

Hi there Steven ! Please allow me to share some of my problem we're facing here with you. Here are a few points that I suggest you should check on your current process:- (1)PCB - Component land partern design ? It is per IPC spec ? - Mask

What will happen if a sloder paste is used after 24hours

Electronics Forum | Sun Jan 18 09:20:26 EST 2009 | davef

We're not sure of the condition of your solder paste. So, afte 24 hours, if it's: * Unused, in a reclosed container, maybe a week of life depending on the environment * Used, scrap A simple coalescence test can quickly determine the condition of sol

"Gap" in completed solder joint between lead and pad

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of IPC-A-610 D on hand, however, I believe in IPC-610, this floating height between lead and pad has no maximum specification restriction. As long as there is no voiding, it is still acceptable for all 3 classes.

Poor HASL Finish known to cause solder shorts?

Electronics Forum | Fri Sep 24 09:49:53 EDT 1999 | C.K.

Hi Folks: We've been having bridging problems on our fine-pitch QFP's, despite thorough inspection of paste height, volume, and placement accuracies....profiles look good also. The bridging is happening after coming out of reflow...one last thing t

Aperture reduction @ 5 mils thickness is your best bet. It may take several attempts to get just the right paste volume. What aperture reduction was specified to the stencil house for these specific LEDS? or was the stencil blindly produced using a
