HOW THICK IS THE BOARD? IS THERE A LOT OF COPPER IN THE BOARD? DOES YOUR CUSTOMERS PROVIDE HEAT RELIEF IN THE BOARDS BARREL DESIGN THERE NEEDS TO BE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR LEADFREE SOLDER TO FLOW, DID YOU CHECK YOUR PIN(LEAD)TO HOLE (BARREL) RATIO? N

Maybe increased barrel fill? Raising pot temps slightly seems to increase barrel fill at selective solder, something we battle with.

Hello, Some questions.... Are you running lead free? What alloy? Whats your pot temp at? Temp of the board after preheat? Are you getting any solder in the barrels (

First, two points about hole / barrel fill are: * A filled hole is an excellent indicator of the optimum process and optimum quality PCB. * The study that showed that holes need not be filled was paid for by the US Army and performed by Lockheed in

What you have is blowholes. Baking your boards prior to soldering will help. Root cause is either barrel plating too thin or barrel cracks allowing laminate moisture to escape. Patrick

Questions are: * Does the component take solder when you dip it in the solder pot to test the solderability of the leads? * Can you get full barrel fill when wave soldering a bare board? * Is your flux reaching the top of the board through the hole b

Has anyone heard of vias cracking (barrel from pad) when being wave soldered. Was told this was a big problem by contract pcb designer, he always tent vias because of this. The reason was that the solder filling the vias caused stressing and then sep

Thanks for the help guys. Nice to think I was basically on the right path. PCB manufacturer has finally conceded the barrel defects and is remaking the PCBs. We are big on pre-tinning the leads of TH connectors as well as providing some good pre

Are there any good solutions for getting good barrel fill on PTH boards using Pb Free solder and No Clean flux. All of our boards are having issues getting minimum required fill per IPC. It does not matter if the board is 062 or thicker, any pin conn
