nifhail, In a nutshell: Vapor-phase reflow is a process that uses a fluid with a selected boiling point. As condensation of the hot vapor occurs on a cool assembly the assembly's temperature is rapidly raised to match the temperature of the vapor.

Expanding on a previous poster's comments ... Vapor Phase Soldering. A solder reflow technology that uses a heated solvent to melt the solder. Buried deep in the recesses of the SMTnet Library is Terms & Definitions. We started using vapor phas

Hi everybody, now that lead-free is coming, I'm looking forward to change the oven we own in company I work for. Eternal question: what's the best oven technology on market. I allready know that we won't work with IR ovens, but I would like to have

We don't know dip about vapor phase soldering, but we can't help but wonder how well the leads of the component match with the pads on the board.

reduce the stencil aperture to prevent tombstoning in vapor phase process. from my experience a 6 mil thick must be at least between 20 to 30 % aperture reduction for 0805's and below. cheers!

Hi, cool news! I'll try to cook some as soon as I get some experiment material. Thank you for the test method. Rgds

Chet, We've found the exact opposite. Boards we process in VP are cleaner than convection. Sorry but I cannot provide any meaningful data to back that up though. We conduct SIR testing internally using our high impedance pcba's.

Thanx a lot for advice... My only question is: did you had troubles with prehaeating of the boards? I heard it was the only critical point due to chosen technology, infrared preheat (if it's still IR). I allready checked Vitronics Soltec and IBL,

I've worked with a Vapor Phase Oven a semi-automatic and a manual oven for evaluation. They worked fine and produce better grain of solder joints. The fluid that you need depends on the solder temperature that you require. I've used a 200'C fluid for
