Davef, thanks for inputs. I think your correct, we have since obtained some ionic analysis and sure enough there is relatively high chlorides on the bare pcbs. The toluene is controlled within dip tank / drying system, almost no exposure to workers.

Stick a label on the package with the initial opening time and date & the use by time, then check before using again. Use the disposable indicator cards - if the are attached top the waffle packs they are getting the same exposure. Get your supplie

Liza Could increases in adhesion due to exposure to high temperature and humidity in storage environments be an explantion to this cover tape excessive bonding issue? We agree with GS that heat bonding is so 1970s. Most heat bonders can fairly eas

I worked for a company that had a nurse come in to talk to us about lead exposure. She assured us we had nothing in facility that would come close to vapourizing lead. Are you sure they didn't touch up using leadfree solder?

We have had success with both thin folded sheet metal "cans", as well as Aluminum Tape. In some cases it is just not possible to prevent exposure when in convection reflow, so those parts might have a "hand add" instruction for later mounting. 'heg

Seems really excessive. I am not familiar with that particular oven, but I would check to see that the fans are not seeing excess heat during use. Is there any ducting around the fans that might have leaky joints? Is there insulation around the fan

If solderability is the only concern, then there is no standard time. Multiple factors involving OSP thickness, Flux activation levels, profile parameters, storage environment will drive the problem. You just need to perform tests to determine your m

It also varies with the types of deposits. Small deposits of paste (as seen on fine pitch parts or small chips) seem to be more affected by exposure. Jerry
