No-Clean flux residue and RF application

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 30 10:46:27 EDT 2005 | lyrtech

Hi, I curently have an interesting challenge. But I don't have all the knowledge to solve it. One of our boards is used in RF applications. We noticed that the No-Clean flux residue makes interferences in the RF signal. Removing the flux residue so

im running some tests at the moment for hand soldering using a no residue water based flux from MBO, called WBF-01. leaves a good clean finish.

Yes this is absolutely true. No-clean flux residue has various affects on the functionality of circuitry especially high impedance circuits. It also affects solderability, and reliability. No-clean flux will always leave a detectable residue. Mos

The answer for us at my previous employer was water soluble flux. Wash the board, no residue. If you're not set up to wash (needing a washer, DI water source, waste treatment, ventilation, etc.) it can be expensive and space consuming. Do some resea

No clean flux is really a misnomer. What is often taken to mean no residue in effect means no visible residue. Because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't here. Many manufacturers have been through this same learning curve. The goal with a no clea

Dear Ing, Have you analyzed why some RF device aren't operational after washing? An assumption is that failures are related to the ultrasonic energy applied. Other possibilities are for poor rinsing, poor drying, inadequate washing on those failed

Hi All, I have some question about flux residue resulted from non clean process as following: 1) Under what kind of circumstances that flux residue could appear? This residue does not happen during production but did appear after some period of ti

Hi Sean, No-clean flux does leave a residue. Under the best conditions, it is invisible. There are many factors that can cause the residue to become visible such as an inadequate oven profile (or lack of proper preheat on a wave). Also, if wave s

Using no-clean flux going thru wave when comes out there is a bit of flux residue left on board. If wiped the residue shows a yellowish tint. Any ideas what this means how to get rid of it?
