I have used both immersion silver and immersion gold and found that the immersion silver performed better in reliability studies for BGA's using 63/37 paste.

Grant, i have heard of a few cases where the PCB is "reworked" by the PCB house, where the immersion silver that did not wet to the base copper was reworked by just putting immersion silver on top of the non-wetted immersion silver. I know your PCB

Are you seeing this on bare PCBs or after assembly? with Immersion silver, the finish over the copper should be very thin and uniform, that's the main advantage of ImAg. You should not be seeing excess plating filling vias unless: A)Its HASL, not

We have a double sided board with Immersion Silver Plating. After reflow the Silver turns a yellowish color. It still wets good, and the yellow color will polish off with a pencil eraser. Has anyone seen this, or know the cause?

Never changed anytihgn when we switched to Immersion silver. Have run approximatelky 10,000 16mil pitch devices to date with immersion Silver PCB, stainless, chempolished 5 mil stencil, and pbfree paste (OM338). Russ

So i am a quality inspector and i am having issues with the immersion silver PCB. I have found the via holes to be somewhat filled and i wanted to know if anyone knew it this is a CLASS 1, 2, 3, ICP DEFECT or what it is at all?
