Kapton tape is heat resistant to tempratures accociated with wave solder process. If your process is not no clean then masking compound will work.

On the Iron shaft? Why not on the connector to be protected. Actually now that I think back, I seem to remember seeing Kapton tape used on a part in a similar situation, but that I believe was a rework situation. Putting Kapton tape on every assembly

Search the archives here for info. There is lots of posts on this. Short answer is Kapton isn't the best solution. Try aluminum tape or conductive glue if you don't feel comfortable soldering with high temp stuff.

Kapton Tape should not leave a residue. But Ive seem cheap Kapton do that. Anyways I have gotten a stencil cleaner soldevent to clean off tape residue (Multicore has a good one) It will meet IPC. Chris

The thermocouples were attached with a square of aluminum tape holding the probe to the part joint. Kapton tape was used to secure the aluminum tape to the board surrounding but not covering the probe. We are using a X5 KIC profiler with the 2G sof
