Wavesoldering Preheat

We have very good results with a mixture. Lower 1st and 2nd preheat is convection, 3rd lower is calrod. No upper 1st and 2nd, 3rd upper is IR. With this combination I have found no challenge that could not be turned into a good profile.

lead free selective soldering

It could be lack of preheat or flux. You can verify the flux by hand applying. I'll bet it's lack of preheat though. That's usually the case with selective solder.

IR zone vs forced convection

If you are using VOC free flux, then forced convection preheats are better at evaporating the water. That may be why you're getting the "splatter". Plus, forced convection preheaters are most efficient at thermal transfer. See if you can get one to p

Thanks to all for the input I will try the preheating the "blank" out of it too. the preforming Idea I had wasn't the problem. I'll slow down conveyor speed and increase the preheater temp.

Selective Solder Machines

Hi Taint, Both machines work OK. The big thing you may over look is pre-heat. Things like flux spatter/boil tend to come into play if you don't pre-heat. Change over, ease of programming, and service are also things to think of.

Preheater for hand soldering

Thank you for the advice. I have the same concerns with applying that much heat from a single point, so I will probably go with a Zephyrtronics preheater. Tom

White spots on PCBA after Selective Solder

Electronics Forum | Sat Sep 12 09:49:38 EDT 2015 | davef

If the boards were still "wet" after DI wash, your [I assume] low res flux could be reacting with the moisture on the board and causing the white spots. The preheater in the wave could have more dryification than the preheater on the selective solde

Reflow oven bottom heaters

We found used Ersa HotFlow 2/14 reflow oven that does not have bottom side preheaters. Can it be easily and safely used in normal high mix/low volume production or is it built for specific products which does not need bottom preheaters?

Top preheater for wave soldering

I would like to know when to consider top preheaters in a wave soldering machine. I am very new to this field. All responses are appreciated.
