Regarding X-ray I was referring to ssager's comment "...X-Ray is only as good as the human eye that is operating it...". I thought x-ray images could be checked by software algorithms to find defects, not only human eye?

Can anyone give me some insight into what to look for on a used X-Ray machine. Or just any thoughts on using X-Ray inspection. We are getting more and more QFNs and our inspection seems a little subjective. Thanks.

Does anyone have experience with DAGE Assure, Hawkeye 1000, XRHCount or similar X-ray component counters? I myself have no experience with any X-ray equipment so any kind of feedback is important.

USE OF XRAY Xray is not used for testing BGA. Xray is an inspection tool, similar to a microscope. Check the fine SMTnet OnBoard Forum. Gil Zwieg from Glennbrook made some good points. Additionally, search the fine SMTnet Archives, where theres

X-ray is probably more useful in the grand scheme of things. SAM will, like Glenn said, pick up delams in components especially at internal interfaces. X-ray will only pick up a defect like this if it's perpendicular to the delam, very difficult.

Ron: Good news: Nicolet makes excellent machines. Bad news: Im unaware of a machine with the capabilities you seek. * X-ray machines lack of resolution needed in relation to the crack geometries encountered within a high density single material.

Steve, I have done BGA work with and with-out Xray. If you are going to install them in high volume it makes sence to have every thing including rework on site. If you are just going to put down several a week you can probably get away without th
