Chunks, Nozzle unfriendly? Maybe it should be called nozzle hostile. Depending on the machine and lighting a nozzle with a 1.8mm tube might work. In English units that would be a .072 OD with a .062 ID. The area such a nozzle would pick from is the 6

Resistance testing equipment

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 01 05:26:14 EST 2005 | Rob

Hi Daniel, Yes there is such equipment available, I have seen it on the end of both Capacitor & Resistor production lines, but from what I can remember it was custom made. The cap line was testing 0402's. Hope that helps, Rob.

Rich, From my experience, few causes of capacitor cracking are: - mechanical stress caused by pick'n place nozzles and chucks. Try to isolate and find cracked caps before boards go thru reflow or wavsoldering. - thermal stress by reflow pro

Solder Balls at Electrolytic Cap

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 15 13:36:30 EDT 2004 | John S

We are launching a new product and are fairly new to reflow soldering. A concern that has arisen is a fairly consistent solder ball that forms at an electrolytic capacitor. We changed to a homebase aperture design on our passives to eliminate mid-c

Our experience has been similar to yours. Not the best placements rates for 0603 caps. I can't tell you an exact reject rate on our machines. We program them as leaded components which seems to help a lot. Also, not using gang picks is best. You

I can only describe how the Grid Lok handles component variability. The compliant caps have an annular ring that is very soft and can mold to different shapes. If a component shows up where there was no component before, the outside of the cap bend

Ceramic capacitors cracking

If you are physically breaking the boards apart and not using a depanelizer you will always have this problem. I have a machine shop that can make you one for about $3,000.00. You can buy one for around $5K new. Cab,FKN and some others make them. Be

You should add a Capacitor Discharge statement in ICT test Software. This could be done by selecting the nodes and have statements to connect relays to ground. Could be possible that the Selective Soldering system is the cause, as problems is now s

Non-Waveable SMT Caps

Electronics Forum | Thu Jun 21 22:42:45 EDT 2001 | davef

We're doing one of those review things for some reason that none of us can remember. We just printed-out the product sheets on a whole pantload of SMT capacitors [rather than use the old moldy ones we have in some file cabinet ... BIG mistake] that

Re: Solder Fillet Problem on 0603 chip capacitor

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 17 18:36:49 EDT 2000 | Philip Reyes

Yeo, These are possible rootcause of that defect and you can evaluate. 1. Orientation of the capacitor, maybe the cap is located behind big component. 2. Reflow profile, check the profile on that side. 3. Yes, check also the mounting force. Philip
