Re: reliability of epoxy

Electronics Forum | Fri Aug 07 01:02:51 EDT 1998 | zeek - just wanna to get a word in here

| | I am looking for advice or information from anyone about the possible reliability problems associated with epoxy on solder pads of discrete devices. Will the epoxy expand and lift over time, Will there be adverse reaction between the solder and t

Shear Strength of Tinned Leads

Electronics Forum | Fri Aug 08 11:44:44 EDT 2003 | Henry

I am fairly new to wave soldering and production processes, but I have been tasked with coming up with a calculation involving the shear strength of some through-hole leads. The leads are tinned copper and I suspect that tinning reduces the shear st

Pros/Cons of Gold immersion boards(solderability)

Electronics Forum | Thu May 10 19:19:41 EDT 2007 | rgduval

Wayne, I haven't seen anything indicating that Gold Immersion is necessary for lead free... However, it is my companies preferred finish for lead free assemblies. We've taken this stance for the following reasons: 1. Better solder quality on th

Question of delamination in PCB

From our notes, the following is a series of snips from: "Copper Dissolution in Tin" LJ Turbini, PhD, adjunct faculty member, University of Toronto, Materials Science and Engineering, SMT 2/07 As the solder becomes molten, copper from the board diff

Reflow soldering of Solar panels

Electronics Forum | Wed Apr 21 10:37:34 EDT 2004 | russ

Only the manufacturer of this part can tell you if subjecting the entire assembly through reflow temps is okay. It is not a good assumption that "if a part can be hand soldered it can withstand reflow" there are many connectors/headers/buzzers/etc

Stock footage of SMT process?

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 18 17:07:50 EST 2007 | ajd400

Hello there, Please forgive the wildly-off-topic nature of this post. For a video documentary about radios in the 1920's, I'm looking for stock footage of modern PC board manufacture. (I'm a software engineer but doing this effort as a hobby). Th

Assembly of flexi (flexible) circuit boards

Electronics Forum | Thu Jun 26 09:04:43 EDT 2003 | caldon

We had a "Spring loaded" fixture that pulled the Flex tight and used loads of Board supports. There were pins that went through the Connectors holes and held the flex firm. We only had a few components so it was no problem. Lucky for us because the f

Affect of Moisture on Assembled PCBs

Electronics Forum | Tue May 18 10:14:04 EDT 2004 | Rob

What affect does moisture have on sensitive components on a board as it waits for thru-hole assembly? Suppose I run a batch of boards today and the assembly dept won't be able to get to it til maybe a month from now, is it okay to just let the boards

Re: Wave Solder of SOIC/SOT Packages

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 22 14:39:22 EDT 1998 | Chrys

| My company is looking for higher density for card layout. One suggestion has been locating active components packaged in SOT's and SOIC's on the B-side of the card. This in turn will require wave soldering of the above mentioned components. When I
