The solder alloy does not change based on the flux. Your potential for embrittlement is the same [providing the metal of the solders are the same] with either solder. We would guess the OA flux is [and drag tinning are] removing corrosion from the

Sure, it's possible to transfer water soluable flux from boards to tray to boards with low residue flux. We have never heard of this try of problem.

Patrick: The flux was OA, but you can get the same result with low residue flux.

Patrick I can only agree with you about low residue (alcohol based) fluxes, providing you apply the amount specified by the supplier. Amounts in excess of the specified amount can have harmful effects.

Yes, but even high force probes are not a cure-all. You still get flux build-up over time which can cause contact issues. The best way is to use a low residue flux in the wave to minimize what's left on the pcb post-wave.

Armando: We're guessing that the white residue is on the laminate also. We believe that the residue has something to do with your low residue flux and water. It could be: * Water contamination in the flux. * Poor selection of preheat temperature that

You can use a peelable, rather than a water washable, temporary solder mask? Points are: * Vinyl peelable is preferred over latex, because of lower residues. You should be very concerned about this since you are probably running a low residue proce
