If this is a problem you see with all your paper tape, you may want to talk with your machine vendor. Sometimes a sharper blade in the feeder,which peels off the cover tape, helps to keep the carrier tape together.

You should see a coarse silverish / grayish coat on the termination that indicates that it soldered. We have to opinion [don't know] about the strength of solder connection versus the strength of component terminations.

It's definately soldering because the fillet is pulling the solder plating (I believe, from what I can see under available magnification) off of the termination, and some of the nickel plating as well.

Does anyone know, what causes the orange peel affect when spraying pcbs with conformal coating ? Are there ways of minimising or eliminating this ? Is is possible to achieve a glass like finish ? if so how Thanks Sam
