Does anyone know of a web site (or other source) that illustrates the orientation of polarized SMT packages with respect to the carrier tape sprocket holes? THANKS, Doug

One of our board fab houses is asking (again) to eliminate the reference designators and polarity markings from boards. This isn't feasible for thru-hole, but what is the industry trend on surface mount assemblies?

I am interested in inspection machines working with comparation, the results that I need for inspections are missing parts, component offset, polarized components, etc. The machine can work in line or off line. Thanks for help. Sergio.

I am considering of Philips FCM for the next production. But I have heard a rumour saying this machine is not capable for checking the lead polarity due to the laser scan system. i.e. SOT might be populated in wrong direction. Can somebody advise me

Some machines can check for polarity while doing vision inspection. Although this will differ from component to component, it is a thought to consider.

But in the REAL world where the part hits the board, all the software in the world can't predict part size descrepancy, polarity descrepancy, thickness error, or board tollerance errors.

Not these days. Most parts have several molding marks. Or the entire edge has a bevel. Using the ink as polarity is becoming mainstream.

I have lots of those parts don't go by the arrow it is a vender marking has nothing to do with the polarity go by the belveled edge you can't go wrong

I've been saying that for years. Polarity markings shouldn't have to be a guessing game. You really wonder what some of these manufacturers are thinking. It COULD and should be made simpler!

We are in the process of determine our target. We are inspecting with all the options Presence, Joints, OCV, Polarity, etc. What would be an average of ppm on AOI? 1000, 5000, 10000? Low volume - High mix. our machines are Agilent SJ50 Series 3
