Solder Paste

Yins are bad, this guy's serious. Generally, solder pastes are comprised of: 90% solder powder, 5% flux, 4% solvents, and 1% activators [by weight]. Where: * Solder powder, when reflowed, is a metal bonding agent that mechanically and electrically

Upinder, Using IPA does not cause the residue, it simply exposes it. Given that all fluxes leave reisdues, it follows that these MUST be benign - but how do you know, and how do you control it. You are using flux to remove oxides and give you a go

Non-wettig on chip cap.

Thanks for your advise Now I don't found Non-wetting defect at TIN COATED 0603 after I had increased peak temp and Time above 183 C. At film caps, I still found Non-wetting in high rate at film chip size 2416. I using PANASONIC's part with identif

Vacuum Bags

Electronics Forum | Wed May 16 13:02:12 EDT 2007 | slthomas

Moisture barrier bags are polymer coated foil so are nearly gas impermeable. There's always some coating left at the weld (or it wouldn't stick) so they're not completely sealed but that's as good as it gets. Usually people use the vacuum to remove

I know nothing about Xbox specific rework, but have a lot of experience with PCB repairs. "...maybe think its a bad idea now not knowing what im doing" Don't get discouraged, it's a learning process. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it.

Nitrogen in the Reflow Oven

We do in fact see a reduction in soldering defects, most especially wetting issues for both parts and PWBs, tombstones, billboards, etc... As a CM we see all kinds of customer furnished material, some of it not in the greatest condition. Our best p

Curious, very curious ... Residues Where are these residues? [solder & laminate / mask, solder only, laminate / mask only] What is the result of your analysis to the residues? How do you know its a flux residue, rather than a chemical by product

Black Pad?? (PICTURES)

Electronics Forum | Mon Oct 20 15:41:19 EDT 2008 | patrickbruneel

Josh, You can not check the bare boards for black pad unless you remove the gold plating. Like Robin said black pad is nickel oxidation/corrosion and a result from bad electroless nickel plating bath control. The only preventative action you take is

Re: Voids - correlation with a not wetting PCB

| I have datas to substain that a not wetting PCB ( the HAL oxided or not uniform in thickness )if soldered in reflow, it shows voids with X-Ray inspection. The voids are in side all the joints not only on the solder pads levell. | | Is there a techn
