We've noticed that there are many different recommendations for pad sizes for various SMT parts. This seems to vary wildly from manufacturer to manufacturer for the same case sizes. Is there any standards that can used used to specify these sizes?

As long as your operator is grounded, a pair of welders gloves is fine. The leather kind do not build up static and do last a while. If the same pair of gloves is being used for dedrossing the wave, pay special attention to loose fitting gloves. I

HHmmmm!! looks like i'm getting it way wrong by wanting to chart the quality of product coming from my wave solder machine. could some of you let me know whats the best way to monitor quality on this process.

yes SPC can be used on a wave solder machine, you should use a c-chart to monitor the amount of defects per board or group of boards, this will let you know if your process is stable, as you improve your process you should re-calculate your UCL, hope

Guess- If a component drops at the camera the machine will not proceed to attempt to place it and drive the nozzle into a brick of solder paste. The line sensor will catch the fact there is no component on the nozzle and will retry to pick and place.
