Be very careful with rumors. MPM has bought SM-Tech. Quad and MPM now enjoy an excellent working relationship, but this is in the screen printer market not Quad's core SMT Assembly business.

I'm taking over a company that uses Topaz X's. Anyone have opinions, good or bad that they would care to share? It's a high mix, low-mid volume facility. Thanks...Rick

Not sure the exact birth of SMT, but I remember that move and it was 1941, not 1943, but who cares... Good luck on your quest for the birth of SMT... :)

I find the most reliable method is soldering the thermcouple to the joint or between the pin and pad. One thing to take care of is not to use to much solder, which would increase the thermal mass.

It could be that it's been a long time since Siemens has sold a machine. Is it true that they licensed that twirly head S20 wachajigger from UIC?

Don't forget that the great American company UIC sells the wonderfull HSP machines, or are they Sanyo?

Siemens guys say they bought the rights to the twirly thingy (and everything else) outright. I got the chance to work with both an early verson from UIC, and the next Siemens improvement on it. UIC should have been ashamed.

Stu Leech Altos Engineering sleechatixdotnetcom. Alternately, search the fine SMTnet Archives by company for Altos Engineering to obtain contact infomation. [Be careful. Glendale is not in 'Engineering'. It's in 'AZ'.] Ask Stu about Croc-Clamps
