We determined moisture more as a diagnosis based on omission. We eliminated the other variables, noted that the parts were cracking in reflow, and deducted that it was trapped moisture. As the moisture expands, the component can be cracked/destroye

What process steps have been completed before the cross-section? What type of devices have solder cracks? Are the cracks found after just normal processing or after some type of validation testing? It is very unlikely to be a heating/cooling issue

Sorry to build up your hopes. The latest thing to hit the air ways at work, I was accessed of fiddling with the oven settings, because there were reports of "cracked joints" there was no mention of where the cracks were, cracked at the pcb or cracke

hi, 1206 capacitor with silver/palladium termination is mounted onto a ceramics substrates. Bonding is achieved through conductive epoxy. We discovered that the epoxy cracked and this caused missing capacitor. We had tried different grade of epoxy,

I've seen numerous incidences of mirror image cracking under endcaps in high dielectric material ceramic capacitors due to thermal cycling. If the cracking is deep enough to extent through the plates you can get breakdown and shorting. Section the ca

we have a capacitor cracking on one of our boards, there are four of the same cap on the board and only one cracks, we are seeing about 6% of the component cracking. it's not near the edges of the board and he board is 2.4mm thick so i dont think it

Have anyone seen this problem: Capacitors (100nF 0805) placed on PCB and then appear cracked after reflow. After reflow, the solder joints look visualy acceptable. Then capacitors fail during testing. When attempting to remove capacitor with hot sol

One more place to check, ( if cracked caps are apearing in the same location on all boards), are board supports in your pick and place machine. I've had instances where operators are not tightening board supports down causing them to shift during pro

Hi Eom, no matter what size the crack is its a no-no and you should take any precaution to avoid this cracking. Ask your vendor if you are not sure which moisture level applies for your part. Follow the recommended handling specifications for moistu
