I read an article about signal integrity losses and ENIG applied to all of the traces on the board. Doesn't solder mask protect the traces? Why would you need ENIG on the entire board?

You can have it either way. In each program you can select to have the side pressure active for the entire program. The factory setting is to have it release immediately after it pushes the pcb against the fixed rail.

We have several, the one everyone likes is a Fancort VPD5-330. We were having trouble with cracked ceramics near the score line with our pizza cutter style depaneler. The linear blade made it go away entirely. Not the cheapest, though.

In most instances, it is cycle time prohibitive to use it to check the entire PCB. But you can use it to check critical areas. You can also set it up to check every 2nd, 3rd, 5th panel. (etc)
