The use of nitrogen in lead free wave solder operations is primarily used to reduce or even eliminate drossing of the solder, thus improving solder yield. The higher priced lead free solder makeup (Cu, Ag) make this a more economical proces than the

We have an ERSA Versaflow Ecoselect selective wave soldering machine. It works well except it needs nitrogen. You can't even move the table around if your nitrogen tank is empty. The spec sheet says Required degree of purity: Nitrogen liquid 5.0

Most places I've seen don't do anything special. But then again most places only have chip components on the bottom of their boards along with some thru-hole. The best way to find out if you are going to delaminate is to talk to the board manufactu

Glenn, There are both very good VOC-Free fluxes as well as alcohol based fluxes out there. This should be your primary focus if you are so lucky as to have to opportunity to actually select a flux! The use of nitrogen will benefit any no-clean pro
