We are using a glue and wave solder process for primarily chip components. Our products do not use any fine pitch components. What would an acceptable benchmark for the placement defect rate be? 50 DPMO? 100 DPMO? 200 DPMO? Thanks in advance,

Yes, a flux with a fast wetting rate will be more prone to have spattering. Fluxes with high boiling point solvents are also more prone to have spattering, if the same flux is fast in wetting rate.

Does sombbody know what DPM rate a good and reliable SMT assembly line (incl. solder paste print, assembly and feflow soldering) has?

Defect rate is a variable that is hard to evaluate from company to company. Look into solid solder deposit which will eliminate smd scrap/defects all together, no matter who assembles it. http://www.sipad.com mk

Hi Peter, DaveF is correct...you can't just rate them without specific purpose or knowing what you really need. What about Samsung.......Suzuki........

Does anyone know what the voltage ratings on ceramic caps is related to? Would it be safe to use a 50V cap instead of 25V for .01uF X7R bypass/filter caps? Thanks Russ

You may find that the higher volatage rated parts are thicker. Same footpring but "taller". Usually not a problem unless the board is inserted into a mold. BTDT.

additonally, minimizing the rising rate aroud 183'c and decrease the droping rate(near 0.8'c/s) is also a good way .
