Hi, We are currently using WonderMask PX Peelable Solder Mask # 2222 for the wave rework process, but we are having a lot of trash in the pot. I understand that it is because the solder mask resists the pot temperature (500F) but not the rework tim

PCB designers specify the application of solder mask [eg, varnish, solder stop mask, solder resist, etc] to fabricators to reduce the potential of bridging between two conductive traces during assembly soldering processes [eg, wave, reflow and hand s

Sounds like the mask wasn't properly cured. What kind of solder mask is it? We use a photoimageable mask on our boards. The secondary cure is ~ 90 minutes @ 150C. One of the cured mask tests is solder bath resistance where it has to resist degra

Are you running individual point soldering on each component lead, of are you drawing lines with the solder fountain to increase the speed of the process? Could be that if you are drawing lines, coupled with the very low flux levels you say you are

| Folk's, | I'm in need of some help / direction. I'm working on my thesis for a masters based on looking at the effect's of the solder resist promoting / reducing the amount of solder ball's during wave. I'm looking at thing's like colour, texture,

Kapton tape is heat resistant to tempratures accociated with wave solder process. If your process is not no clean then masking compound will work.

Hi its undercured solder resist which leaves a clear waxy/oily residue and can be seen as brown tar/oil in the molten solder wave. This also causes MicroSolder Balling and some snail trails of solder pick up and worst case bridging and peeling resist

Peter: Most of the stuff you read on BGA was purloined from a single document written by Motorola. Amoung the things it discusses are solder mask defined and nonsolder mask defined pads. Check it out:

Allowing the board fabricator to define the board you expect to receive is fine, as long as they do a good job. Regardless of the existence of a clear product definition or not, its reasonable for you to argue that your receipts must meet the requi
